- Lockers — multiple compartments with individual locks for staff, students and workers.

- Tambour or roller-shutter cabinets — sliding shutters that save door swing space.
- Fireproof cabinets and safes — for documents and valuables needing heat protection.
What to check before buying
- Steel sheet thickness, usually quoted in gauge or millimetres, because thicker sheets resist bending.
- Powder coating or paint finish and whether the base is pre-treated against rust.
- Number and adjustability of shelves, and load capacity per shelf.
- Lock type: cam lock, multi-point lock or digital lock, and number of keys supplied.
- Dimensions against your room and passage, and flat-pack or fully welded construction.
- Warranty, delivery to your floor and a GST invoice.
Who buys them
Offices, schools, colleges, hospitals, shops, factories, housing societies, contractors, NGOs and government offices.
Frequently asked questions
What gauge of steel should I ask for?
For heavy files, ask for thicker sheet in the shelves and doors, and check that the supplier states the thickness in writing. Thin sheet sags and dents quickly.
Is a fireproof cabinet the same as a steel almirah?
No. A normal almirah does not protect papers from fire; fire-resistant cabinets are tested and rated for a stated time. Common brands include Godrej, Remi, Bharat and Nilkamal.
When is a compactor worth considering?
When records are large and floor space is limited. Compactors need a level floor and professional installation.
