Dustbins & Waste Containers

Types

• Pedal bins — foot-operated lid for hygienic use in offices, clinics and washrooms.
• Open or swing-lid bins — low-cost bins for corridors, classrooms and public areas.
• Wheeled bins (120 to 240 litres) — handle high volumes and are moved by hand to collection points in campuses and housing societies.
• Segregation sets — colour-coded bins for wet, dry and hazardous waste, or for biomedical waste categories in hospitals.
• Large containers and skips — 660 litres and above, for municipal-style collection, markets and factories.

What to check before buying

• Capacity in litres matched to daily waste and collection frequency.
• Material: HDPE, polypropylene or stainless steel, with UV stabilisation for outdoor use.
• Colour coding that matches the rules in force, such as green, blue and black under solid waste rules, or yellow, red, white and blue for biomedical waste.
• Lid type, wheels and handles, and whether liners are needed.
• Wall thickness and impact strength, because thin bins crack under heavy use.
• Warranty, bulk delivery terms and a GST invoice.

Who buys them

Offices, schools, hospitals, shops, factories, housing societies, contractors, NGOs and government offices.

Frequently asked questions

How many bins does an office need?

Place at least one bin per workstation cluster and one at each pantry and washroom, then add segregated bins at common points. Count on emptying them daily.

Do hospitals need special bins?

Yes. Biomedical waste must be kept in coloured containers and bags as per the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, so confirm compliance with your waste handler.

What size wheeled bin should a society choose?

Estimate daily waste per household and the frequency of collection, then pick a bin that is not more than about 80 percent full at pickup. Common brands include Supreme, Nilkamal, Cello and Sintex.
