What to check before buying
- Wattage and lumen output, plus efficacy (lumens per watt) for energy performance.
- Optics and light distribution, so the pole spacing and road width are lit evenly.
- Colour temperature, normally neutral to cool white for roads.
- Ingress protection (such as IP65 or higher), surge protection and operating voltage range.
- BIS certification and test reports for the model, and LM-79 or similar photometric data.
- Warranty, commonly several years, with clear terms, spares, GST invoice and pole mounting arrangements.
Who buys them
Housing societies, municipal bodies, industrial estates, campuses, contractors, townships and hospitals.
Frequently asked questions
What wattage for a 12-metre road?
It depends on pole height and spacing. Typically 60 to 120 watts at 8 to 10 metre poles. A lighting calculation will give the right figure.
Do LED street lights need maintenance?
Very little. Clean the cover occasionally and keep an eye on drivers, which fail before the LEDs do.
Is a surge protector necessary?
Yes, as Indian grids see voltage spikes and lightning. Ask for built-in surge protection rated for outdoor use.
